I had a lovely time photographing this family in downtown Turin. The children were 8 and 11 years old and it’s always a pleasure to work with older children. I often work with babies and very young children, so it’s still kind of surprising when older kids stay put and do what I ask them to do! We met in the park behind Piazza Castello where there is a view of the Mole Antonelliana, the famous landmark of the city. Then we walked to Piazza Castello (it’s always great when the fountains are turned on), then to the Galleria San Federico (which is like an indoor street with stores and cafes), and then to Piazza San Carlo where the family relaxed at an outdoor cafe with a view of the twin churches of Santa Cristina and San Carlo Borromeo. After taking some posed portraits in the beginning of the shoot, I tried to capture the family in a more documentary way as they toured the city. My favorite shot is the one of the daughter looking at wedding dresses in the shop window inside the gallery. If I can take a picture that looks like I was a fly on the wall observing real life, then I have done my job!
