Lifestyle portrait sessions give you a mix of posed images and candid shots.
We’ll do a few “look at the camera and smile” photos in which I’ll suggest a few natural poses without anything too stiff or formal. We’ll mostly capture candid shots where you’ll interact as a family in a more spontaneous way, with some gentle guidance from me about where to stand or put your hands, or which way to face so you’ll be in the most beautiful lighting.
If you’re looking for something more documentary, check out the Family Documentary session page HERE: no posing necessary.
I’m really patient and I try to make your session an enjoyable experience and fun for your kids.

Where do sessions take place?
Sessions take place at a location of your choice in the South Jersey and Philadelphia area. Let me know if you have a favorite place in mind, and I can offer suggestions if you’re not sure where is best. Locations can range from the park, a beautiful field, city streets and squares, a historic town’s main street, or your own backyard. Beach sessions at the Jersey shore are also available.
What time of day do sessions take place?
I love to use the golden hour light, which casts a warm glow on your photographs and is more flattering than the strong sunlight earlier in the day. Sessions take place 60-90 minutes before sunset. If your young child’s schedule doesn’t permit this, we can shoot at another time and stay in the shade. If you are early birds, we can shoot in the golden hour after sunrise; there is more availability and you’ll have the park or city square to yourselves.
What if it rains?
In the case of rain or extremely gray skies, we will reschedule your session for the first mutually available date. Normally cloudy weather is fine for photography and can be quite lovely, as the sky turns into a giant softbox that diffuses the light.
What should we wear?
Choose clothing that reflects your personality and that you feel comfortable in. I recommend that you coordinate as a family without matching. You could pick one or two main colors and distribute various shades of those colors throughout your family’s outfits as either main or accent pieces. I generally suggest you avoid loud or distracting patterns or writing on your clothing. Neutral colors and solid colors photograph well, but feel free to break the “rules” and let your personal style shine through in your own way. I’m available to chat before your session for wardrobe questions and ideas.
Should we bring anything?
If you have a baby or toddler, bring one or two small toys that will help get their attention for the camera; something that makes noise or lights up is great. You can bring a blanket to sit on at the park if you’d rather not sit directly on the grass.
If it is your style, feel bring to bring a few props like a soccer ball, books, bubbles, or a favorite toy to use as an activity for some of the more candid photographs.
Can we bring our dog?
Absolutely! Ask a friend or family member to come along to take care of the dog during the human-only family photos.
